Twelve years ago, Hurricane Katrina hit and millions were affected, the world would come together to help the stranded and the ones in dire need of relief. As thousands of organizations came up with ways to help the victims, Executives at Nike had a great idea. Their idea was to design an exclusive sneaker that would be auctioned and the money it would sell for contributed to relief.
Air Jordan 3 Katrina
Color: White/Cement Grey/Black-Fire Red

They implemented the idea and got their best designers to work on an all exclusive release of the Air Jordan 3 “Katrina”. It was put on auction and sold for a fair contribution that would go to help in relief efforts for those affected by Katrina.
This was back in 2006 and while the dubbed “Katrina” sneaker got peoples attention and many coveted it, sneaker finders thought that single release of the sneaker. Well, they couldn’t be more wrong.
Now, with over 12 years gone, Nike has released to release the Air Jordan 3 “Katrine”. The release will be as a celebration to 30 years of well built and designed Air Jordan 3’s, and what a way to do it. Its release will be in celebration of a great collection that has been a favorite for millions of sneaker finders and a special sneaker that once contributed to the survival of millions of victims.
Looking at the sneaker closely, it’s clear it is somewhere between “Cement and “Fire Red”. Inspiration has been taken from the two sneakers that have been very popular and although the dubbed “Katrina” sneaker still holds its own unique look, sneaker fans cant help to see the subtle comparison.
The sneaker features an elephant print which is in black and white, a mix of leather on the upper, a mix of red in the detailing on the tongue, heel and the back. One notable feature that makes this sneaker extra special from other Air Jordan’s is the lack of the Nike Air branding on the heel. The tongue also features a Jumpman logo. A feature, or lack of, that Nike has not elaborated why it is missing in the new Air Jordan 3 release.
Jordan Brand has announced its release to be on the 12th May 2018 and to get a pair you’ll have to visit select Jordan stores or online with only $190 USD.
While the first “Katrina” sneaker was designed and released for the purpose of raising funds for the less fortunate, this new release is in no way affiliated with the disaster and is a public release meant to satisfy the original “Katrina” sneaker fans.
Back in 2006, this sneaker represented a lot for a lot of people, it was an attempt that was successful from Jordan Brand to make a contribution in the name of relief and for the people who made the auction, it was their creative way of trying to help. But over and above that, the sneaker was well designed and got the attention of millions of sneaker fans who were not shy to say that Jordan Brand should release the sneaker to the public. Now, Jordan Brand has answered these prayers and every sneaker fan can get their pair of this legendary and iconic sneaker.
